Not much is known about William Smith. He was a Tailor in Balerno, apparently working from his home, in the early 1880s.
In the 1883 record of Club business, it’s shown that William was appointed to a sub-Committee late in 1882. That would surely have been unlikely in his first year of Membership so, perhaps, he may well have been one of the original 23 Gentlemen who attended the first ‘Let it Blaw’ Supper in 1881.
